Goodness, I like being published!

I was in France last week, working with a super group of photographers from London’s famous www.thecameraclub.co.uk/ And very fun it was (I’ll write more about it when I’ve got pictures to show you what I’m talking about). One of the photographers had thoughtfully brought a selection of magazines, including Practical Photography Magazine, which I love. (Have a look here if you’re interested… www.greatmagazines.co.uk/store/displayitem.asp?sid=91&id=30787&custid=0 )

I turned a page, and suddenly found a picture of myself. I imagine that if you’re Kate Moss or similar that this is probably quite a boring experience, but I’ve never really got used to it, and so I squeaked loudly enough for everyone to think I’d been attacked by an insect. Yay! Sometimes having a picture of you appearing in public can be rather painful, because the picture that gets chosen often isn’t one that you’re awfully happy with. But mercifully, this one is a picture I’m really proud of. So here it is.

Darren Birkin2

Whee! Well done to Darren Birkin of www.v11.com/ who’s made the final of ‘Photographer of the Year’ with this picture. I’m very happy. And glad that he chose that dress for me to wear for our action shots – in the picture I think it looks liquid.

After I discovered it, I got very excited and looked through all the other magazines in a great frenzy of ego. But none of the others had any pictures of me at all. Bloody rude – why SHOULDN’T ‘Yachting Monthly’ support artistic nude photography a little bit?

PS – Sorry if none of the links work, I’m still learning how my blog works, and I’m a bit slow with these things…

  1. Agreed, it is beautiful picture of you. Congratulations! :)

  2. Wonderful picture – one of those you can keep looking at and see something new. The dress gets your attention but eventually you notice the floating hair, the look in your eyes, etc…

  3. Found the blog, so saying hello… Hello! And I think you’re doing a great job with it so far.

It is a fantastic picture – even though he’s captured an absolutely frozen moment, the movement/ dynamism screams out. And yes, the dress looks less like it’s being worn that it is flowing in torrents around you. Genius.

Finally, Yachting World has enough “boat porn” that it doesn’t need nudes, artistic or otherwise. Sorry ;o)

  4. Hi Joceline.

Cool that we got published with that shot. It was definitely a team effort. I just did the techy bits and the button pressing. You did the action/energy/grace bits really well and the red dress was perfect for these shots.

I gave an artist permission to use one of the shots from this session as a reference for a picture. Check out the link on Flickr here -
